Improve Facial Redness with an IPL Photofacial

Improve Facial Redness with an IPL Photofacial

For those who struggle with rosacea, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and other skin conditions, an IPL Photofacial (Intense Pulsed Light) may be the answer. This gentle procedure helps to rejuvenate the skin and give you an even, glowing complexion.

What is IPL Photofacial?

This procedure involves pulses of light penetrating your skin. The result is a constriction of blood vessels and collagen below the epidermis, or skin. You will then see a reduction in redness as well as age lines. The improvement in the appearance of your skin will continue over the weeks following the treatment.

IPL photofacials are great for rosacea because the light waves are absorbed by the unwanted pigment in the face. This causes it to disappear while also giving you firmer and younger-looking skin. An IPL photofacial can diminish the appearance of a variety of other skin issues while working on your rosacea, including:

  • Freckles
  • Spider veins
  • Brown or red spots
  • Large pores
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun damage

How Do IPL Photofacial Treatments Work?

In order to achieve the results you are going for, we will likely recommend three to five treatments. They should be spaced four weeks apart. The length of the appointment can vary depending on how large of an area is being treated and how many passes being made. Typically, an IPL photofacial takes 30-45 minutes.

During your appointment, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. The next step is to have a cool gel applied to your face. Your provider does this to enhance the effect of the light waves. The laser is moved over your face in a grid. If your facial redness is particularly bad in an area, the provider may make multiple passes over it.

Once finished, your face is washed again. This is to remove any traces of the cool gel. Patients are able to re-apply make-up right away if they choose. You can also return to your normal nightly skincare routine. The only important thing to remember is to stay out of the sun for a week after treatment.

How Long Do IPL Photofacial Results Last?

The results of your treatment may not be obvious immediately. Instead, you will notice gradual improvement that peaks roughly 3 months after your last treatment. The treatment does not prevent new damage from happening. Luckily, IPL photofacials can be repeated as necessary.
